I have so many memories of Betty and her family, both happy and sad but one of the best happy memories I have is warm, sunny, summer Sunday afternoons sitting in the garden of their house in Rainham eating Betty’s homemade quiche (a skill passed on to Marion) and homemade bread pudding ( another skill Betty passed to Marion).

The first time I met Betty was 1978 on Greenwich Pier. She was there with her husband Edward to meet their daughter Marion who had just finished a trip on a sailing barge. Later that evening at a post sail reception I met Betty, Ed and Marion again, not knowing that Betty and Ed would become my in laws in two years.
